Metadata-Conscious Anonymous Messaging

ثبت نشده
چکیده

Consider a line graph G(V,E) in which V = {0, 1, . . . , n, n + 1}, nodes s1 = 0 and s2 = n + 1 are spies, and E = {(i, i + 1) | i ∈ {0, . . . , n}}. One of the n nodes between the spies is chosen uniformly at random as a source, denoted by v∗ ∈ {1, . . . , n}. When the message reaches a spy si, the spy collects at least two pieces of metadata: the timestamp Tsi and the parent node psi that relayed the message. We let t0 denote the time the source starts propagating the message according to some global reference clock. Let Ts1 = T1 + t0 and Ts2 = T2 + t0 denote the timestamps when the two spy nodes receive the message, respectively. Knowing the spreading protocol and the metadata, the adversary uses the maximum likelihood estimator to optimally estimate the source.

MCMix: Anonymous Messaging via Secure Multiparty Computation

We present MCMix, an anonymous messaging system that completely hides communication metadata and can scale in the order of hundreds of thousands of users. Our approach is to isolate two suitable functionalities, called dialing and conversation, that when used in succession, realize anonymous messaging. With this as a starting point, we apply secure multiparty computation (“MC” or MPC) and proce...

An analysis of WebWho: How does awareness of presence affect written messages?

We present preliminary results from a study of how awareness of presence affects instant messaging in a computer lab. The easily accessible web based awareness tool, WebWho, visualizes a large university computer lab, allowing students to virtually locate one another and communicate via an instant messaging system. Messages can be sent anonymously, by a conscious act of ticking a box. Cross ana...

Instant messaging with WebWho

We present a study of how awareness of presence affects content of instant messaging sent between students using WebWho, an easily accessible web-based awareness tool. WebWho visualizes where people are located in a large university computer lab and allows students to virtually locate one another and communicate via an instant messaging system. As WebWho is there to be accessed through any web ...

Accountable Anonymous Group Messaging

Users often wish to participate in online groups anonymously, but misbehaving users may abuse this anonymity to spam or disrupt the group. Messaging protocols such as Mix-nets and DC-nets leave online groups vulnerable to denial-of-service and Sybil attacks, while accountable voting protocols are unusable or inefficient for general anonymous messaging. We present the first general messaging pro...

An Infrastructure for Anonymous Internet Services

Although recent research provides many techniques for anonymous web-browsing, anonymous internet services, i.e. to run a web server or file server without revealing ones identity, have received little or no attention. In this paper, we present an approach for anonymous internet services, enabling anonymous web and file servers and to run services like anonymous instant messaging and secure shel...
